The first pieces for "Home Safe Home" project

Lifting the Blanket on Domestic Violence

Lifting the Blanket on Domestic Violence was Senior Momentum's first group project, and won the Premier's Award at the the inaugural Women Tasmania International Women’s Day Art Competition at the Moonah Art Centre in 2002.
The artists had entered the competition as "Women against Domestic Violence", but their success encouraged them to undertake further group projects. As domestic violence was only one of many issues to be tackled, they adopted the name "Senior Momentum".

A photograph of this textile was chosen by the State Government for the cover of its options paper on Domestic Violence, Safe at Home. The textile itself was used by the Justice Department during community consultations and travelled all over Tasmania

Sheeting Home the Blame

Senior Momentum members often address conferences, run workshops and speak to community groups.

Understanding the value of having a large, relevant image behind the speaker, they created this sheet to emphasise their point.

Both the blanket and the sheet were exhibited at Undercover, a book design exhibition in Sydney. This was a suggestion of the curator of the Burnie Regional Gallery; although by no stretch of the imagination "books", the pieces fitted well with the theme of the exhibition - things happening "out of sight" and the exhibition organisers were delighted to have them.
